Sanctuary Alterations
First Baptist Church, Smithfield, N.C.

The first phase of this project included new floor, wall and ceiling finishes for the sanctuary and narthex. The materials were selected to improve the acoustical characterists of the hall. The colors were selected to enhance the visual experience within the space. The first phase included new lighting fixtures, sound system and theatrical lighting. It included expanding the altar size and offering variable configurations. It included refinishing the existing wood pews. It also included replacing the heating and cooling system. The second phase of the project included preparation for a new pipe organ. The preparation included reworking the contour of the plaster choir ceiling to accommodate the configuration of the exposed organ pipes. The preparation also included work in the second floor organ chambers on each side of the choir and blower equipment in the attic.
